The plight of children across the world for better education is deafening. Many of these children have easy access to facilities but struggle with the availability of books, stationary or better-equipped classrooms. Namibia faces these same challenges, but due to our population being spread so widely, many of our children cannot attend preschool due to various reasons. Studies have shown that roughly 100 000 Namibian children do not attend school. That is 100 000 future doctors, engineers, artists, athletes or writers whose stories and accomplishments will never be known.
Initiatives to combat this have been implemented on many fronts, generating success stories along the way. And that is why Hollard is proud to be part of a project that will reach far into the areas of Namibia that would not have received a helping hand. Along with AMS (Amos Meerkat Schools), Hollard has stepped in as support, by educating the wives of rural farm workers and giving them the means to open home-based preschools. Empowering them to make a difference in the lives of many children that otherwise would never have had the chance to attend school.
This initiative started in 2013 with 15 teachers and 150 students of various ages. The results were overwhelming and the count currently stands at 200 teachers, 182 schools and 6100 children, all of which have been given an opportunity to learn and make a difference to their own personal futures, as well as the lives of the people in their communities.
Hollard is proud to continue its role as a financial sponsor to this wonderful success story by donating N$ 450,000.00 to this cause and making sure that our Namibian youth can have an equal chance at an education. Every child deserves the confidence and ability that they would require in their day-to-day lives, and it is our responsibility to ensure that they have these essential tools at their disposal when they need them most.
The cost of living might be rising, but the cost of good will always stay the same, a kind heart.
